I love dynamic typography and a clean desktop.

I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design and my minor in Social and Environmental Justice from Ball State University, a GDUSA top design school. I am working as a Designer at Studio 165+, an award-winning design studio comprised of fellow students. I am tackling the post school world and trying to keep learning, growing, and experimenting with various forms of art and design.

I was born and raised in Oregon, then later moved to Indiana in my senior year of high school where I was recruited to run track and cross country at the D1 level. Currently I plan on moving back to Oregon after graduation. When I’m not glued to my laptop,
I like to get outside to backpack, climb, be near the ocean, and find new cafes to get my caffeine fix.

In design there is often a pressure to perfect things, but in practicing ceramics, that pressure tends to go away. Anything in the ceramics world has so many points of failure, granting me a lot of forgiveness with my work and the ability to become
flexible. The two forms of art influence each other in the conceptualization of
designing functional or decorative ceramic objects with graphic design principles in mind. Ceramics offer a unique 3D medium for applying graphic design elements, while graphic design principles can enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of ceramic creations.

My keyboard is covered in clay dust.

For my BFA showcase I wanted to have something for everyone to take home with them. I decided to do my favorite thing and bring designs to life on function ceramics. I took inspiration from the iconic test tile that all ceramicists are more than familiar with.

Test tiles are known for being small, simple clay shapes used to experiment with and evaluate glazes, slips, and surface techniques before applying them to larger ceramic pieces without wasting precious clay or kiln space. I took inspiration for my many test tiles and made business cards with my new logo stamped into one side and a qr code for this website.

My personal branding logo is a revised version of my makers mark that can be found on all my ceramic works. This new variation was made more angular and dynamic to fit my branding, as seen on the header and as the favicon to this website. It takes inspiration from a figure running and combines my initials, A and S.
